– Vintage 2007 –

An early bud-break, early flowering and a hot summer served to quicken the pace of ripening in the vineyards. We began picking on the 28th of August, which is the earliest that anybody knows of. After the rains on the 6th and 7th of September there were indeed a few anxious moments, but we had good luck; the rain only fell for two days, after which the ensuing cool temperatures (8°-13°C) and the brisk winds prevented the development of botrytis. Moreover, our chalky soils drain beautifully and the water flows quickly away. After the 10th of September, the weather was magnificent, and the second segment of the harvest was brought in in perfect condition. Powerful red wines with a clearly delineated framework of tannins and spicy berry aromas soon developed in our cellar. This year’s Chardonnays are characterised by elegance and finesse—all told, the vintage produced spicy and cellarworthy wines.
