– Ried Neusatz –
It is the single vineyard Neusatz which welcomes visitors to Großhöflein coming from the west. “Neu” (new) as part of the name Neusatz is relative though – 99% of the “New World” vineyards being considerable younger. The single vineyard Neusatz was first mentioned in 1750.
Rising from the foot of the slope of the Leithagebirge up to 215 meters above sea level, Neusatz borders the Großhöflein Hotter area towards the west, and in the direction of Großhöflein it lies adjacent the single vineyards Haussatz and Point. Due to its soil consistency, southern exposure and openness to westerly winds, this patch is one of the rare Großhöflein sites which are excellently suited for cultivating at least two varieties. In the lower-located part near the village, Zweigelt ripens to perfection on medium-weight loam soils rich in limestone. These grapes are used in composing the cuvées Eichkogel and Steinzeiler.
In the higher-located part remote from the village, Chardonnay thrive on calcareous soils with high portions of coarse-grain inclusions.
The surface of Neusatz is 55 hectares – 5,46 hectares are cultivated by the Kollwentz Estate.
Because it’s not only the inner values that count.
