– Vintage 2003 –

The shooting started late in spring due to continuously cold temperatures. As a result, we were not threatened by late frosts. From that point on, warm and sometimes midsummerlike temperatures paired with dry weather promoted highly accelerated growth and early flowering. Petrus´ motto seemed to be “two days of rain, ten days of sunshine.“During May and June, rainfall brought 120 liters of water per square meter – quite a considerable quantity for the Pannonian clime. In July, we still received sufficient rain for the development of the grapes in addition to lots of sun.

August still keeps dry and very hot, leading to the earliest harvest ever. We started at the first of September!
Extremely important in 2003 have been the right work on the foliage wall of the vine. Only light leaf plucking because of danger of sun burn of the grapes and an early green harvest have been the key points of optimum vine cultivation. The fully ripe and healthy grapes are all harvested within the 25th of September.

The whites are of brillant fruit, fine harmonic acidity and powerful but elegant structure. The reds of the vintage 2003 are deeply coloured and powerful with lots of ripe tannin and will be an promise for the future. As dot of the i of this extraordinary vintage we harvested at the morning of the 25th December at minus eleven grad Celsius an concentrated ice wine from the variety Scheurebe.
