A summer with plenty of sunshine but also enough moisture – and then an exceptionally beautiful Indian summer – to allow the grapes to ripen fully. Perfect vineyard work paid off; only our Zweigelt suffered a bit under the greenhouse-like growing season. Very spicy and ageworthy red wines with impressive tannin structure. Fantastic upper-level Prädikatswein.

A perfect summer, but then a lot of rain in September. Rigorous selection at the harvest ensured a small but fine vintage.

1997
A warm summer and a sunny autumn made for the vintage of the decade. Highly mature and healthy grapes produced white wines of utmost elegance, along with the greatest red wines that had up until then ever been grown in Burgenland.

1996
A cool year brought fresh, fruit-forward white wines and upper-level Prädikatwein. Lack of ripeness despite the most meagre yields (22.8 hectolitres per hectare for Cabernet Sauvignon) caused us to declassify all of our top red wines. We only bottled »Blaufränkisch« and »Zweigelt«.

Hail on 18 July decimated the anticipated harvest, reducing the volume by half. The remaining clusters attained a high level of ripeness in this hot year, with robust tannins in the red wines.

A summer for the history books: thirty consecutive days with temperatures above 30°C and peaks up to 37°C, eight weeks with no significant precipitation. The extremely dry, hot summer ensured wines of the finest quality. The reds are endowed with powerful tannins. Long-lived, robust Blaufränkisch wines. Marvellous Eiswein.
