– Vintage 2023 –

After another dry winter, April finally brought the longed-for rain. A cool May only allowed a slow development of the vegetation. It became hot and dry just in time for flowering. Immediately after that there was rain again and July also brought warm temperatures and sufficient rainfall, which thankfully did not fall in the form of heavy rain or even hail. The vines and the cover crop in the vineyards thrived splendidly. Protecting the vines from fungal infection was particularly important this year, therefore the foliage had to be kept well aerated and pest management was also more complex than usual in 2023. After August brought a lot of warmth and good distribution of precipitation, the development of the vines was still almost two weeks behind compared to previous years. At the end of August, a period of warm summer weather began and we started harvest on September 12th under optimal conditions. The weather remained stable until October 20th and we were able to pick very healthy grapes with good acidity and high ripeness. The sequence of rain, morning fog and sunshine provided good prerequisites for noble rot in late autumn, so we were able to harvest a Trockenbeerenauslese on November 29th. 2023 vintage will go down in history as a great year with highly ripe wines that show typical fruit and acidity.
