– Vintage 2018 –

A long winter – with temperatures below 0°C that persisted until March – was responsible for late budding.

The mild April was followed by summery weather throughout May & June, which transformed the lag in the vegetation’s development into a lead. We were soon some ten days ahead of schedule, which demanded appropriately intensive work in the vineyards. The vines never suffered from drought even during the heat of summer thanks to some thunderstorms, and the ripening proceeded steadily on so that we were able to observe the veraison of the red wine grapes in mid-July.

The beginning of the harvest took place earlier than ever before; on 23 & 24 August we harvested our Pinot Noir in Ried Dürr. The following week, Sauvignon Blanc had its turn. Rainfall brought the ardently desired cooling-off at the beginning of September. Things subsequently moved forward in weekly rhythm with Zweigelt, the Chardonnays and the Blaufränkisch all picked with the best possible harvesting weather. We harvested our Cabernet at the end of September and a Chardonnay Trockenbeerenauslese on 9 October.

Healthy and fully ripened grapes blessed us a with a great vintage times three: white, red & nobly sweet!
