– Vintage 2017 –

We are very satisfied with the vegetation cycle and the development of the grapes. The long, cold winter brought about late budding. Even so, we had to worry again this year about the young shoots because of late frosts in April and May.

Temperatures around 0°C coupled with up to twenty inches of snow on the Gloria brought us a sleepless night. Miraculously, there was no significant damage to the vines, and a great deal of rainfall at the end of April, followed by warm weather, made the vines thrive beautifully. Even our new plantings in the vineyards Neusatz, Gloria, Point, Setz, Tatschler & Katterstein made it through the hot summer days without supplementary irrigation. Around 10 July we got 50 litres/m² of rain, which brought the cooling that we so desperately needed.

The hot August brought advanced maturity and healthy, thick-skinned berries. A cool September allowed the grapes to ripen fully, and incidentally made for fresh, fruity acidity. The harvest took place with pleasant weather from September until the beginning of October. Healthy, fully ripened grapes gave us a magnificent vintage in both white and red!
