– Ried Föllikberg –
Föllikberg is Pannonia’s westernmost point and boasts the region’s typical fauna and flora. This mountain was formed by an erosion of the Leithagebirge, when in the subtropical climate rivers transported sediments from the Leithagebirge into the shallow sea, thus forming the alluvial cone of today’s Föllikberg. Located south of the Leithagebirge, Föllikberg is an impressive massif despite its low height. It ranks among Burgenland’s most interesting sites of archaeological finds. Its location as a solitary hill in the center of the Wulka River Plain was exploited by many cultures from the Neolithic Age onwards.
Föllikberg mainly comprises calcareous black earth with a high portion of clay. Zweigelt above all, thrive on its north to eastern slopes.
From the total area of 275 hectares of Föllikberg, the Kollwentz estate owns 8,73 hectares, but none are under vines.
Because it’s not only the inner values that count.
