High degree maturity thanks to the Indian summer
For the first time in thirty-nine years (since March 31, 1977), our vineyards on the Leitha Range were again plagued by late frost. Half of our anticipated harvest volume was destroyed in three frosty nights in late April. After this, the weather took an exceptionally favourable turn, to benefit the vines. They received adequate rainfall, and many days of sunshine contributed to rapid development of the berries. Summer temperatures up to 35°C and a beautiful Indian summer brought a high degree of maturity for the few clusters remaining. On the 8 September we began the harvest. Warm, dry weather accompanied us through all eighteen days we spent picking, and so we were able to bring the last grapes on the morning of 4 October in the best external conditions. A high level of ripeness, healthy grapes and a strong concentration of substance – all this promises a great vintage!
