To mention that the wines from the house of Kollwentz are top quality would certainly be superfluous. But it is certainly interesting to ask how this comes about.
Wine production is, like so much else, a permanent process of optimisation. But here Andi Kollwentz leaves nothing to chance. He is intensely engaged with the theory behind winemaking, the state of his vineyards and the ideal combination of grape variety and vineyard site. And he continually puts theory and experience into practice – in the vineyard as well as in the cellar. This results in wines that are among the best that Austria has to offer in every category. One focal point lies with the variety Blaufränkisch, where the duo ‘Setz’ and ‘Point’ undoubtedly set high standards. And of course we do not want to forget the beautifully matched Chardonnay duo, the opulent ‘Tatschler’ and the mineral-driven ‘Gloria’ – firmly marked by its origins in a limestone rich high-elevation vineyard. And let us not neglect to mention the other flagships of the house, ranging from the cuvée ‘Steinzeiler’ to the Pinot Noir ‘Dürr’ and the Sauvignon Blanc ‘Steinmühle.’
