Wine tasting of the great 1997 vintage. The FEINSCHMECKER tasting panel tasted 117 red wines from Austria, both blends and single varietal wines.

First place: 1997 Steinzeiler, Weingut Kollwentz-Römerhof

An outstanding composition of sixty percent Blaufränkisch as well as twenty percent each of Zweigelt and Cabernet Sauvignon, matured in different small oak barrels and bottled unfiltered. Burgenland’s red wine pioneer Anton Kollwentz produced first-class wines already in the seventies. A complex fruit, powerful structure, ripe tannins, much potential.
